Twenty people have been injured after a bus overturned in Rangamati’s Manikchari. The passengers on the bus were on their way to Rajban Bihar for a religious event.
The bus veered out of control and overturned as it reached the Bir Srestha Munshi Abdur Rouf Square area at the entrance to Manikchari town on Friday morning, said Md Shahed Uddin, chief of the Kotwali Police Station.
The bus passengers say they are all Buddhist devotees. Forty of them set off by bus from Chattogram’s Rangunia on Friday morning to take part in a religious event at Rajban Bihar. Their bus had an accident as it reached the Manikchari area.
Police and the Fire Service rescued the victims when the incident was reported and took them to Rangamati General Hospital.
Sadia Chowdhury, a doctor at the hospital, said that three of the victims had critical injuries and were sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. The others are receiving treatment in Rangamati.
