At least 22 Bangladeshi nationals have been killed and 32 others injured by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along the border in the past seven months, according to the rights organisation Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK).
Data from ASK shows that over the last 16 years, since 2009, the BSF has killed a total of 607 Bangladeshis in border areas.
Analysts suggest that both countries could form a joint commission to address the ongoing border killings.
However, they emphasise that a political solution remains the key to resolving the crisis. Some legal experts have also recommended taking the issue to the International Court of Justice if bilateral talks fail to bring results.
Despite discussions during a 2024 bilateral conference between Bangladesh and India to bring border killings down to zero, no effective measures have been implemented.
Analysts stress the need for a political solution, stronger public awareness, and continuous pressure on India to end the recurring incidents.
They argue that without sustained diplomatic and political efforts, the situation is unlikely to improve.
