Twenty-two Bangladeshis, convicted of various offences, returned home from Malaysia on Friday after they served out their sentence in a detention centre.

Moreover, they wouldn't be allowed to ever re-enter Malaysia.

The Immigration Department repatriated them from the Pekan Nanas Immigration detention camp in Malaysia's Johor state.

The state's immigration department said in a statement on Saturday that those convicted of various offences under Malaysia's Immigration Act 1959/63 and Immigration Regulations 1963 as well as other enforcement agency laws were repatriated after receiving citizenship verification passes from the embassies of their home countries.

Apart from Bangladeshis, 30 citizens of India, 25 of Indonesia, 20 of Nepal, 11 of Pakistan, eight of Sri Lanka, five of Thailand and four of Philippines were sent back to their respective countries from the same camp.

Earlier, the immigration department sent back 433 migrants, including Bangladeshis, from the same detention camp in different steps.
