Twenty-three Bangladeshi nationals, who were abducted in Libya, have been rescued.
According to the Bangladesh Embassy in Libya, local authorities conducted a raid in Misrata area and freed the abducted Bangladeshis, reports UNB.
The operation was carried out by security forces following an investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Libya into allegations of kidnapping and torture of foreign nationals for ransom in Al-Ghairan police station area of Misrata.
During the operation, two suspects were arrested for their alleged involvement in the abduction.
The rescued Bangladeshis and the detained suspects have been handed over to the Al-Ghairan Police Station for further legal proceedings.
The Bangladesh Embassy in Libya expressed deep gratitude to the Libyan law enforcement agencies for their swift and effective action.
The embassy is also in close contact with local authorities to ensure necessary legal and consular support for the released Bangladeshi nationals.
