The police headquarters has ordered the superintendents of police, or SPs, of Cox’s Bazar, Jashore, Nilphamari, and Sunamganj to report to Dhaka within a day.
Officials said such an order effectively means their withdrawal from their current postings.
Enamul Haque Sagar, a spokesperson for the police Headquarters, said: “The four officers have been asked to report to Headquarters. They must report by Tuesday.”
The officers in question are Cox’s Bazar SP Muhammad Rahmat Ullah, Jashore SP Md Ziauddin Ahmed, Nilphamari SP Mohammad Morshed Alam, and Sunamganj SP AFM Anwar Hossain Khan.
The directive was issued separately to each officer on Monday.
The letter, titled Directive to Report to Police Headquarters, said:
“Hand over your responsibilities to the next senior officer and report to the Police Headquarters in Dhaka on Feb 18. This order has been issued as per the instructions of the appropriate authority.”
A police headquarters official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said: “SPs are recalled this way when there are serious allegations against them. This effectively amounts to their withdrawal, as they have been instructed to hand over their responsibilities.”
