Metro Rail passengers parched around 40,000 MRT pass cards in the last five days to avoid long queues at the metro rail stations.

MAN Siddique, managing director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL), informed this to a local television channel on Friday.

Dhaka metro rail attracted a large number of enthusiast people after the inauguration of its daylong operation from Uttara to Motijheel on Saturday.

The DMTCL sources have attributed the passenger pressure at the terminals to the unavailability of adequate rapid travel passes.

They hope the passenger pressure in the stations would reduce when single-journey-ticket users would convert to regular card-based passengers.

The officials also expect the situation improvement after reducing the train arrival gap to 4 minutes from the present 10 minutes during peak hours and 12 minutes during off-peak hours.

Since the time of two parts of the MRT-6 synchronised for operation from 7:10 am to 8:00 pm on Saturday, pressure of passengers during both peak and off-peak hour increased to average 242,000 from 150,000.
