As many as 461 new dengue patients were hospitalised across the country in the last 24 hours until 8:00am on Monday.

Of the total, 143 were admitted in Dhaka - a slight rise in the capital and remaining 318 in other parts of the country, according to the Directorate General of Health Service (DGHS).

Currently, 2,018 patients, including 861 in the capital, are now being treated at various hospitals across the country, the DGHS said.

A total of 85,288 patients had been hospitalised since January 1. Of them, 83,067 were discharged after making complete recovery.

DGHS data also showed that dengue cases started to decline in September while August had broken all the previous records in a single month, affecting 52,636 people.

Since the beginning of this year, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) received information about 203 dengue-related deaths. It has so far reviewed 116 cases and confirmed 68 deaths caused by the mosquito-borne disease.

The government agencies concerned have taken extra measures including creating mass awareness as people in and out of the capital city were also found rushing to hospitals.

WHO said there is no specific treatment for the viral fever but early detection, proper medication can lower fatality rates below one per cent. Besides, cleanness and awareness are the pre-measures to fight the disease.
