56 commit suicide in Jhenidah in January-February

A total of 56 people have taken their own lives in Jhenaidah district in January-February.

This came out at the monthly meeting on law and order at the deputy commissioner's office on Sunday, said Jahidul Islam, executive director of Society for Voluntary Association.

Among the upazilas, Sadar saw highest deaths by suicide while it was the lowest in Moheshpur.

According to the non-government organisation executive, 17 people killed themselves in Sadar upazila, 14 in Shailakupa, 10 in Kaliganj, five in Harinakunda and Kotchandpur each, and four in Moheshpur, reports UNB.

Deputy Commissioner Md Jakir Hossain urged all and sundry to raise awareness among people in the society to prevent such deaths.
