At least 604 people, including 89 women and 97 children, were killed and 1231 others injured in road accidents last month (March), according to a report of the Road Safety Foundation (RSF).
The casualties occurred in some 587 road accidents across the country, the report published on Saturday said.
Of the total, 233 people died in 242 motorcycle accidents, which is 38,57 per cent of the total deaths. Motorcycle accident rate is 41.22 per cent.
As many as 109 pedestrians were killed in road accidents, which is 18.04 per cent of the total fatalities. 98 drivers and assistants, 16.22 per cent, were killed.
Meanwhile, during this time, nine people were killed and fourteen others injured in six boat accidents, and 19 people were killed and 4 injured in 16 railway accidents.
The Road Safety Foundation prepared the report based on data from 9 national dailies, 7 online news portals, and electronic media.
According to the vehicle-wise statistics of accidents, motorcycle drivers and riders are 233 (38.57 per cent), bus passengers 32 (5.29 per cent).
According to the foundation's monitoring and analysis, 228 (38.84 per cent) of the accidents occurred on national highways, 256 (43.61 per cent) on regional roads, 72 (12.26 per cent) on rural roads, and 31 (5.28 per cent) on city roads.
