62 sacks of VGF rice seized in Sirajganj

Sixty-two sacks of rice meant for distribution among poor people under the Vulnerable Group Feeding (VGF) programme were seized in Tarash upazila of Sirajganj district on Monday.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Iffat Jahan said 69 sacks of VGF rice were allocated for the poor and helpless people of ward-2 under Tarash municipality on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

However, councillor Bakul Hossain allegedly distributed only seven sacks of rice among them and sold the remaining 62 sacks in the black market, according to a UNB report.

Receiving the information, the UNO conducted a drive and recovered the VGF rice.
