64 parking spots to be set up in city

Dhaka Transport Coordination Authority (DTCA) on Sunday approved a proposal to set up 64 parking places in the city.

Besides, the two city corporations have been given the responsibility to construct a small ‘city forest’ at a suitable location after evicting encroachers and a ‘bus bay’ adjacent to the streets in Dhaka.

The decisions were taken at the 13th meeting of DTCA at its conference room.

Road Transport and Bridges (RTB) Minister Obaidul Quader chaired the meeting where decision to free footpaths, as well as removing illegal motorised and non-motorised vehicles from the streets was also taken.

Moreover, the transport authority also decided to shift inter-district bus terminals outside the city.

Mayors of Dhaka city corporations, Narayanganj and Gazipur, secretaries of Road Transport  and Highway  Division ,  Bangladesh Bridge Authority , Bangladesh Railway , DMP  Commissioner, chiefs of Roads  and Highways  Department ,  Bangladesh Road  Transport  Authority  (BRTA) and Bangladesh Road  Transport  Corporation and director general of Bangladesh Railway were present at the meeting among others.

Khandaker Enayetullah and Osman Ali attended on behalf of Dhaka road transport owners and workers' associations respectively.

DTCA Executive Director Rakibuddin Ahmed and other officials were present.

The RTB minister said the drives conducted by Dhaka South and North city corporations were slowed down following outbreak of dengue.

Quader also stated that Dhaka Metropolitan Police will provide necessary supports to the efforts by the two city corporations.

Shifting of all inter district bus terminals from the city will begin providing alternative terminals outside the city, the minister added.
