A seven-member committee has been formed to investigate the fire at the cargo terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, according to a press release from Biman Bangladesh Airlines’ Administration and Human Resources Department.
The committee is chaired by the airline’s Chief of Flight Safety, with members including representatives from the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Corporate Safety and Quality, Chief Engineer (Quality Assurance), Deputy General Managers of Security and Cargo Export, and Deputy Manager (Insurance) serving as secretary.
The committee’s mandate includes identifying the cause of the fire, assessing damage, determining responsibility, and recommending measures to prevent future incidents.
It has been instructed to submit a report to the Managing Director and CEO within five working days, and the order is effective immediately.
The fire broke out on Saturday, Oct 18, around 2:30 pm in the cargo village area, leading to a suspension of all flights at the airport. 37 fire and civil defense units have been deployed to control the blaze.
The cause and extent of damage remain unknown.
