At least eight people have been injured after a large number of helicopter-shaped helium balloons were released during a "Celebrating the Fall of Fascism” event as part of the “July 36” celebrations.

The injured have received treatment at a hospital, but the burns are not serious.

Shawon Bin Rahman, resident surgeon of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said: “A total of eight people with burns caused in the Manik Mia Avenue incident came to our emergency department. They have burn injuries, but all of them are minor.”

Witnesses say that around 2:15pm on Tuesday, green helicopter-shaped helium balloons were released into the air as part of the "Celebrating the Fall of Fascism” events. The balloons got tangled in the electric wires overhead and caught on fire. Everyone on the stage was asked to move. Then some people were seen being taken from the venue in ambulances. One of them had a burn injury on their left hand.

The fire lingered for a short and screams were heard around the stage.

When contacted, the Fire Service Control Room and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station said they were unaware of the incident.
