Eight workers have been burnt in an explosion at a steel mill called RMM in Shyampur under Dhaka’s Kadamtali Thana.
The injured have been taken to the National Burn Institute.
The accident occurred around 9am on Wednesday.
The burn victims have been identified as Md Hira, 35, Khalilur Rahman, 56, Rajab Ali, 29, Matiur Rahman, 22, Arshed Mia, 45, Liton Mia, 32, Manik Mia, 45, and Yusuf Mia, 40.
Shahidul Islam, a colleague of the burn victims who were brought to the hospital, said that around 9am, a ball of fire suddenly rose up and burnt the workers as they were working on melting iron at the factory.
They were then rescued and brought to the hospital.
Shawon Bin Rahman, resident physician at the burn institute, said among the victims, Hira had suffered burns on 17 percent of his body, Khalilur on 9 percent, Rajab on 4 percent, Matiur on 10 percent, Arshed on 11 percent, Liton on 7 percent, Manik Mia on 40 percent, and Yusuf Mia 5 percent.
Among the injured, Hira and Manik have been hospitalised. The remaining six have been kept under observation.
