8,718 foreign returnees complete quarantine period in Khulna

A total of 8,718 foreign returnees, out of the 12,569, have returned to normal life after completing the 14-day home-quarantine period in Khulna division.

They were kept in home-quarantine to prevent community transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19), reports BSS.

Assistant Director (Disease Control) of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in Khulna division Dr. Ferdousi Akther said a total of 8,718 expatriates were released from home-quarantine till 8:00am on Saturday from March 10 in all 10 districts of Khulna division.

Besides, a total of 40 expatriates were released from institutional quarantine and 13 others from isolation so far in the division without any coronavirus symptoms. Meanwhile, 210 expatriates were kept under home-quarantine in last 24 hours in the division.

Among the 210, 12 expatriates are kept in home -quarantine in Khulna, 132 in Bagerhat, 41 in Satkhira, three in Jashore, 14 in Jhenaidah, one in Narail and seven in Meherpur districts. With them, a total of 12,569 expatriates were quarantined at homes so far in the division and of them, 571 were given clearance in the last 24 hours as they showed no symptoms of coronavirus after their stay in home-quarantine for 14 days, she said.

“The armed forces, police and district administration are continuing distribution of masks and leaflets, spraying of disinfectants on the streets and public places, making arrangements for washing hands with shops and carrying out cleanliness campaigns to prevent community transmission of COVID-19.,” she added.

Meanwhile, Khulna district administration, Khulna City Corporation, different Awami League leaders, socio-cultural activists, NGOs and volunteer organisations are continuing distributing essential foods among the needy, jobless, destitute and common people at their doorsteps to mitigate the economic hardship caused amid the coronavirus situation.

As part of the government’s instant ‘humanitarian support programme’, Mayor of Khulna City Corporation Talukder Abdul Khaleque yesterday evening distributed foods among 300 needy, jobless and destitute people in the city’s 31 wards and on Rupsha Bridge premises as chief guest.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md. Helal Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC General) Ziaur Rahman, ADC (Revenue) Sarwar Ahmed Salehin, General Secretary of City Awami League Md A Babul Rana and other local leaders of AL, among others, were present on the occasion.
