975 women raped in nine months in Bangladesh: Report

At least 975 women were raped in the first nine months of the current calendar year in Bangladesh, according to a report of an independent rights and legal aid body.

Of them, 762 women were raped by single accused while 208 suffered gang-rape, according to a report by Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK).

Besdies, among the rape victims, some 43 women were killed after the incidents, and 12 others committed suicide, the ASK said in a statement on Thursday.

At least 1,413 women were raped in 2019 across the country, while as many as 732 women were raped in the year before, the ASK report disclosed.
