Amar Bangladesh (AB) Party’s General Secretary Asaduzzaman Fuaad has faced public backlash during a visit to his electoral constituency in Babuganj.
Atikur Rahman Al Amin, convenor of the Babuganj Upazila unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, said the incident occurred on Sunday around 1pm, following the foundation-laying ceremony of the Mirganj Bridge over the Arial Khan River.
The zone falls under the Barishal-3 (Babuganj-Muladi) parliamentary constituency, where Fuaad is running for parliament.
A video of the incident went viral on social media, showing an upset Fuaad being trailed by a jeering crowd. As the situation escalated, he quickly left in a car.
Road Transport Advisor Md Fouzul Kabir Khan was the chief guest at the event Fuaad was attending, said witnesses. Shipping Advisor M Sakhawat Hussain also attended the programme.
After the advisors had left around 12:30pm, Fuaad incited the crowd by saying demands of extortion stalled the construction of the bridge.
Later, according to the Upazila JCD convenor Atikur, Fuaad was announced “persona non grata” in Babuganj.
Attempts to contact Fuaad over the phone regarding the matter were unsuccessful.
