Abducted businessman Aniruddha returns home

Businessman Aniruddha Kumar Roy, who was abducted on August 27 from Gulshan in Dhaka, has returned home on Friday.

Roy's wife Shashwati Roy said confirmed his return to Gulshan home. But she did not disclosed further details about the matter.

However, Gulshan Police Station OC Abu Bakar Siddique said on Saturday that they had not heard of Roy’s return.

On August 27, a group of men on a microbus abducted Roy from in front of Gulshan-1’s Union Bank, his driver said.

The kidnapping scene was caught on a CCTV camera of the bank.

The Bangladesh Hindu-Buddhist-Christian Unity Council sought Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s help in finding him.

Roy is the managing director of RMM Leathers. He also served as an ‘honorary consul’ for Belarus.

According to bdnews24.com, Aniruddha owns several factories in Dhaka that manufacture garments and shoes, and employs 5,000 people. He has travelled regularly between Canada and Bangladesh to run his businesses.

Roy immigrated to Canada in 2005 under the Quebec Immigrant Investor Programme before relocating to Toronto three years later, the Toronto Star reported citing his family.
