ACC Deputy Director Mahbubul Alam temporarily suspended over corruption allegation

Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Mahbubul Alam has been temporarily suspended on charges of corruption, bribery, and amassing illegal wealth.
The order was signed by ACC Chairman Dr Mohammad Abdul Momen on September 4, according to an official notice.
The notice states that reports published in several national newspapers accused Mahbubul Alam of extorting millions of taka by threatening people with cases, taking large sums of money from the principal and officials of Ideal School in exchange for relief from investigation, receiving Tk 100 million from the managing director of Essential Drugs, and acquiring land and other assets in his own name as well as in the names of his wife and mother.
According to the allegations, he owns assets worth about Tk 1.50 billion in Gulshan, Bashundhara, Joar Sahara, and Demra in Dhaka, as well as in Sarishabari of Jamalpur.
The notice further states that in its 20/2025 commission meeting held on August 27, the ACC decided to suspend him temporarily, considering the seriousness of the allegations and the interest of the state.
As per Rule 43(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission (Employees) Service Rules, 2008, Mahbubul Alam will receive subsistence allowance during his suspension.
The order takes effect from the date of issuance.
