ACC detains Ansar commandant for offering bribe

An Ansar commandant was arrested in Chattogram on Thursday for offering bribe to an Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) official.

A team consisting of executive magistrate of Chattogram district administration and officials of ACC detained Ansar Nilphamari District commandant Asiqur Rahman as he offered bribe to deputy director of ACC Chattogram office 2 Jafor Sadek Sibli, according to a statement of  ACC on Thursday.

ACC is investigating an allegation against the commandant over a tender irregularity while he was a commandant of Bandarban district.

Muhammad Munir Chowdhury, director general (administration) of the anti-graft watchdog said the detained Ansar commandant was offering bribe Tk 100,000 to the official.

The corrupt government officials cannot remain as public servant, said he.

ACC is very much vigilant over bribery offer as it is committed to curb graft from the country, added Chowdhury.

It is an utmost need to remain corruption free and stop bribing at all tiers in government offices to maintain the dignity of public servants, the DG said.
