The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has approved the filing of a case against Dr. HBM Iqbal, a former Bangladesh Awami League lawmaker, and his family on charges of amassing Tk 680 million in wealth from undisclosed sources.

According to ACC findings, Dr. Iqbal, also a former chairman of Premier Bank PLC, has total assets amounting to Tk 2.98 billion, while his recorded liabilities stand at Tk 1.39 billion, leaving a net wealth of Tk 1.59 billion.

Against this, he declared a total income of Tk 1.90 billion, with family and personal expenses of Tk 933 million, indicating net savings of Tk 974 million.

However, the ACC detected a discrepancy of Tk 623 million, representing wealth inconsistent with his known income sources.

In another development, the ACC has launched an inquiry against Rathindranath Dutta, Regional Director of the Directorate of Technical Education, Sylhet, over allegations of forgery, corruption, and money laundering.

According to an ACC headquarters' circular issued on April 8, 2025, Dutta allegedly obtained multiple passports under different names and amassed substantial wealth.
