ACC interrogates five Islami Bank officials over S Alam embezzlement

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has interrogated five senior officials of Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC (IBB PLC) as part of an investigation into allegations of embezzlement involving thousands of crores of taka by S Alam Group and its associates.

A team led by ACC Deputy Director and investigating officer Yasir Arafat interrogated the officials at the ACC headquarters starting at 10:30 am. The questioning concluded at 2:30 pm.

Those interrogated include Islami Bank’s Executive Committee Chairman Professor Dr Md Selim Uddin, Directors Professor Dr Md Sirajul Karim and Khurshid-Ul-Alam, EC Member Nazmul Hasan, and Shariah Board Member Secretary Dr Abdus Samad.

S Alam Group Chairman Mohammad Saiful Alam's son and former Islami Bank chairman Ahsanul Alam, Director Professor Dr Kazi Shahidul Alam, Independent Director and Executive Committee Member Dr Md Fasiul Alam, and Vice Chairman Dr Tanveer Ahmed were also summoned by ACC but they did not appear.

The commission summoned these officials on November 11, according to ACC sources.

Additionally, 17 senior officials of Bangladesh Bank have been asked to appear before the Anti-Corruption Commission on December 8 and 9 with verified copies of their NIDs and passports.
