The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has launched an investigation into the theft of white stones and related financial corruption in Sylhet's Bholaganj area.

The move came after initial evidence was found against at least 42 politicians and government officials.

On Wednesday, ACC Director General (DG) Md Akhter Hossain confirmed the matter.

He said that as primary evidence of corruption was found during raids, the commission decided to begin a full investigation.

According to ACC sources, the decision was taken in a meeting of the commission held on Tuesday after the Sylhet office reported its findings.

The report mentions the involvement of 42 influential individuals and organisations.

The ACC may soon appoint an officer to lead the investigation.

Those accused of stealing while stones include leaders and activists of different political parties, government officials, police members, and even personnel of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).

The ACC DG said depending on the scale of crimes and involvement found during the investigation, necessary legal steps would be taken in the next phase.
