The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday said it had not found safe deposit lockers in the names of 25 former and present Bangladesh Bank (BB) officials, including erstwhile governor Abdur Rouf Talukder, during its raid.
ACC Director Kazi Sayemuzzaman said this while informing the media of the operation's outcome.
He said, "Despite complaints against the 25 officials, no lockers could be found in their names. There are more allegations against other officials, and the ACC will carry out additional raids as per court instructions."
The complaints against the officials were filed by employees of the central bank.
The ACC during its ongoing investigation has so far located 272 lockers. An eight-member team conducted Sunday's raid at around 12:30 pm after securing court approval.
It followed a previous operation on January 26, when the ACC searched former deputy governor SK Sur Chowdhury's locker and discovered assets worth around Tk 50 million. The assets are currently in the central bank's custody.
During Sunday's operation, several lockers were found in the names of Bangladesh Bank officials.
The raid was launched due to concerns that some of the individuals under investigation for corruption may have lockers at the banking regulator's headquarters.
On February 02, the ACC sent a letter to the central bank governor requesting that no one be permitted to access the lockers. As a result, access to the lockers was restricted.
Arif Hossain Khan, a spokesperson for the Bangladesh Bank, confirmed that the ACC had conducted Sunday's search based on a list of names, but found no lockers linked to the individuals.
