Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ramna Division Harun-or-Rashid, has been withdrawn on Sunday for allegedly torturing two central leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), the student front of ruling Awami League, after taking them into custody at the Shahbag police station in the capital last night.

Confirming the matter, Faruk Hossain, deputy commissioner (media) of DMP, said ADC Harun has been withdrawn this afternoon from Ramna Division police and attached to public order management.

He said an investigation committee will be formed to find out as to why police men brutally beat BCL leaders and action will be taken later.

Earlier on Saturday (September 9) night, ADC Harun reportedly took BCL central Organising Secretary Anwar Hossain Nayeem and Science Affairs Secretary Sharif Ahmed Munim to Shahbagh police station on following an altercation with them at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital and allegedly beat them there.

Later, several BCL leaders went to Shahbagh police station and took the two leaders to hospital.
