Tania Rab, senior vice-president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-JSD, has declared assets worth nearly 14 times more than those of her husband and party chief ASM Abdur Rab.
The affidavits filed with her nomination for the Lakshmipur-4 constituency in the general election show her annual also surpasses her husband’s by several times.
Tania, a businesswoman by profession, earns an annual income of Tk 8.29 million, whereas her husband reports a yearly intake of Tk 2.6 million.
Her total asset valuation stands at Tk 140.8 million. In contrast, Abdur Rab -- the former DUCSU VP who famously hoisted the first national flag in 1971 -- holds assets valued at Tk 16.5 million.
The couple resides at the late Ali Azam’s residence in Ramgati, and intends to contest the polls under the party’s “Star” symbol.
Their electoral zone covers the Ramgati and Kamalnagar.
In her financial disclosure, Tania noted that her movable property includes Tk 248, 961 in bank deposits and a substantial Tk 57.5 million invested in bonds, debentures, and shares.
She also holds Tk 4.5 million in different financial institutions. Her vehicle collection, consisting of two cars, is valued at Tk 6.17 million.
In addition, the JSD candidate possesses 50 bhori (583.2 grammes) of gold and furniture worth Tk 1 million.
The original acquisition cost of these movable assets is recorded at Tk 69.4 million.
Her immovable property includes residential or commercial buildings valued at Tk 12.9 million.
She draws an annual rental income of Tk 1.47 million, while her investments in banks and other financial sectors yield Tk 6.8 million per year.
Her most recent tax return shows a payment of Tk 2.3 million.
Abdur Rab, who served as a minister during the first term of the Sheikh Hasina government, manages a portfolio worth Tk 16.5 million.
This includes Tk 1.64 million in financial institutions and Tk 10 million in bond and share investments. He also maintains fixed deposits worth Tk 3 million, alongside 10 bhori (116.64 grammes) of gold and furniture valued at Tk 1 million.
The JSD chief also inherited property worth Tk 5.45 million and paid Tk 347,600 in his latest tax filing.
Tania, a graduate, confirmed in her affidavit that they have three sons: one a PhD researcher, one a media coordinator, and the third a salaried professional.
The Uttara-based politician currently faces no criminal charges.
