AI-generated images used to spread misinformation on metro rail greenery: DNCC Administrator

Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan on Monday said AI-generated images were circulated on social media to spread misinformation about the condition of greenery surrounding the Metro Rail area, in an attempt to discredit both the government and DNCC.
Speaking to reporters after inaugurating a tree plantation programme at Tejgaon Polytechnic playground and along adjacent road dividers, he said that greenery around the Uttara Metro Rail area which was partially damaged due to temporary cattle markets has already been restored through fresh plantation efforts, UNB reports.
“As a result, the area now presents an even more attractive and environment-friendly landscape than before,” he said.
Shafiqul urged journalists to visit the Metro Rail area and inspect the greenery firsthand so they could help disseminate accurate information among public.
He said the tree plantation programme was launched to encourage citizens to engage in constructive activities after Eid-ul-Azha and to support the implementation of the “Clean and Green Dhaka” initiative.
Under the programme, trees will be planted gradually across industrial zones and other areas within DNCC’s jurisdiction, he added.
The DNCC administrator also thanked the leaseholder of the Dhaka Polytechnic cattle market and local residents for their support in implementing the initiative.
He said roads, lanes and neighbourhoods across the city had been cleaned after Eid with the cooperation of residents and media personnel while regular household waste collection and disposal services continued uninterrupted.
Responding to a question, he said cattle market leaseholders were carrying out waste removal and dismantling activities in accordance with the requirements.
