An organiser of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement has been arrested in a joint operation at the Narayanganj 300-bed Hospital.

Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station chief Nasir Ahmed said the drive was conducted around 11am on Sunday.

The arrested Zidan Hossain, organiser of the Narayanganj Sadar Thana Anti-discrimination Student Movement, had four yaba tablets and a knife seized from his bag.

A hospital volunteer named Iqbal Hossain was also arrested.

The Narayanganj district branch of the Anti-discrimination Student Movement permanently expelled Zidan from the organisation.

District Committee Convenor Nirab Raihan and Member Secretary Jabed Alam gave this information in a press release at noon.

The release said, “Zidan has been permanently expelled for engaging in activities that are against the organisation's policies and ideology.”

Police and hospital sources said for the past few days, there have been complaints of an increase in the number of drug dealers at the hospital.

During the army’s intelligence surveillance on Sunday, Zidan, Iqbal and some of their associates attacked and detained the team members.

Later, additional police and army members went to the hospital and arrested two, while the others managed to escape.

Hospital Superintendent Abul Bashar said, “The joint forces conducted a raid today due to the increase in the number of drug dealers. There was a misunderstanding with some people in the hospital at that time.”

Nasir said, “Police will press charges against the two for blocking the raiding party, threatening to kill them, and recovering yaba tablets.”
