An officer of the Bangladesh Army, Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar, was killed in an attack during a drive against illegal weapons in Chakaria upazila of Cox’s Bazar in the early hours of Tuesday.
Chakaria police station officer-in-charge Md Manjur Quader Bhuiyan said a group of robbers opened fire when a team of army was trying to detain them at Maizpara area in Dulhazara union under Chakaria upazila around 3:30 am.
Lieutenant Tanzim Sarwar was injured after being shot by the robbers. The army officer was taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Ramu. He succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The Chakaria police station chief said six members of the robber gang were arrested and firearms were also seized from their possession.
