Army recovers arms, ammunition from Bandarban

Bangladesh Army on Tuesday recovered arms, ammunition, drugs and other illegal items after raiding the hideout of a local insurgent group in Bandarban district.

A team from the army’s Ruma zone of the district conducted the operation Minjhiri Para area, some 10 kilometres deep in hills from Ruma upazila, at around 3:30 am, according to a source in Bangladesh Army.

The armed forces recovered two Russian-made SMG rifles, three magazines, 15 rounds of ammunition, one knife, 100 grams of cannabis, 100 grams of opium, 650 ml of local liquor, one solar charger, and one combat bag.

The army had information that the local insurgent group, consisted of hill people, has been realising extortion from poor people, abducting them, and carrying out other terror acts in Ruma and adjacent areas.

Tipped off, a special patrol of Ruma Army Zone reached the expedition area in the middle of the night and when the team approached to the hideout, an exchange of fire took place between the army and the terrorist group.

However, the miscreants fled the scene and no one could be arrested.
