Battery-operated rickshaw pullers have blocked the road in the capital's Mohakhali area since morning, causing public suffering. Train services were halted as they sat on the tracks. In this situation, members of the army chased them away.
Rickshaw pullers were chased away in the Mohakhali rail crossing area on Thursday afternoon. As a result, the drivers moved away from the tracks, according to local media reports.
On Tuesday, the High Court ordered a ban on battery-run rickshaws in Dhaka metropolitan area within three days. The HC bench of Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Mahmudur Razi passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed in this regard.
Following the order, battery-operated auto-rickshaw drivers blocked roads in different places including Doyaganj, Mirpur, Kalyanpur of Jatrabari in the capital on Wednesday. Like the second day, rickshaw pullers gathered in Mohakhali, Mohammadpur, Mirpur, Gabtoli and Demra areas of the capital from 9:30 am on Thursday. This has created severe traffic congestion in these areas.
