Ain O Salish Kendra (ASK) strongly condemned the widespread incidents of vandalism and arson across the country on Thursday.

It also expressed concern that such incidents undermine the rule of law, equal legal protection, and proper legal proceedings.

On Wednesday night, protesters attacked Bangabandhu Memorial Museum and Sudha Sadan, vandalising and torching it. Later, such attacks took place in multiple districts of the country.

The attacks coincided with deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s speech at an online event organised by the banned Chhatra League urging her party members to stand against the interim government.

Citing media reports, ASK highlighted that army personnel were present at the scene in Dhanmondi 32 but remained inactive and eventually left the area.

Additionally, citing media reports, it said that reports of inadequate security for fire service personnel at Sudha Sadan were also alarming.

ASK reiterated its unwavering commitment to human rights and democracy, affirming that it has always been—and will continue to be—vocal against any incidents that go against these principles.
