A customs official who went missing while returning home to Cumilla from a training session in Chattogram has been found dead by the side of the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.
Police recovered the body of Bullet Bairagi, 35, near a hotel in the Kotbari area at around 7:45am on Saturday, said Md Abdul Momin, chief of Mainamati Highway Police.
Bullet, an assistant revenue officer in the Customs, Excise & VAT Commissionerate, was a resident of Panpatti in Cumilla City.
Family members said Bullet had travelled to Chattogram on Apr 11 for the 44th basic training course.
After completing the programme, he boarded a Dhaka-bound bus from Alankar Mor around 11pm on Friday to return home.
He was expected to get off at the Cumilla bypass.
His family last spoke to him at 2:25am, when he reportedly said he had reached Cumilla City.
His mother Nilima Bairagi said his voice sounded "unfamiliar" during that final conversation.
When he failed to return home and his mobile phone was found switched off, his father filed a general diary with Cumilla Kotwali Model Police Station on Saturday morning.
Momin said there were no major visible injury marks on the body, although his face appeared bloodied.
Police said Bullet's mobile phone, bag and other personal belongings were missing.
