A Dhaka court on Tuesday ordered the attachment of 17 flats, two houses, including a 20-storey building in Gulshan-2, and some plots owned by Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat, former chairman of Padma Bank PLC's board of director, his wife Anjuman Ara Shahid and son Chowdhury Rahib Safwan Sarafat.
Judge of the Metropolitan Senior Special Judge's Court, Md Jakir Hossain Galib, passed the order after hearing a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Earlier on the day, ACC Deputy Director (Money Laundering) Md Masudur Rahman, also the head of an investigation team, submitted the petition before the court seeking necessary order.
According to the petition, Nafeez Sarafat and two other family members are now on the run while ACC is investigating allegations that these individuals amassed a huge amount of property by corrupt means. The accused are trying to transfer the property in different ways and if they become successful, ACC investigation may be hampered, reads the petition.
Earlier in February this year, the same court gave an order to freeze 74 bank accounts owned by Chowdhury Nafeez Sarafat, his wife and son. The ACC in its plea said the anti-graft body is probing allegations of bribery, forgery, misuse of power, corruption and embezzlement of around Tk 8.87 billion brought against them.
