The government of India’s Tripura state has suspended three police officers, withdrew a senior officer from his post and detained seven people over the attack on Bangladesh’s Assistant High Commission in Agartala.
A top Tripura police officer said the BJP government in the border state has ordered an inquiry into Monday's incident, according to NDTV.
Three sub-inspectors -- Dilu Jamatia, Debabrata Sinha, and Joynal Hossain -- were suspended and Assistant Commandant Kanti Nath Ghosh was withdrawn from his posting. The officer said the action against the four officers was taken on the grounds of negligence.
On Monday, a number of people attacked the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission. The incident drew a sharp response from the interim government of Bangladesh. Dhaka alleged that local police were ‘not found to be active in containing the situation’.
NDTV said the number of cops at the Bangladesh mission in Agartala was stepped up after yesterday's incident.
