Attack on Hasnat Abdullah's car in Gazipur: 70 held in overnight raids

Police in Gazipur have detained at least 70 individuals during overnight raids following an attack on the vehicle of Hasnat Abdullah, the chief organiser for the southern region of the National Citizens' Party (NCP).

The arrests were made by Gazipur Metropolitan Police throughout Sunday night (May 4), confirmed Additional Police Commissioner Zahid Hasan on Monday morning (May 5).

Most of those arrested are reportedly leaders and activists affiliated with the Awami League and its associate bodies.

The police, including teams from local stations and the Detective Branch (DB), launched a coordinated crackdown across the city after the attack on Hasnat Abdullah.

Two suspects were initially detained around 9:30 pm on Sunday. They were identified as Md Nizam Uddin, a Jubo League leader from Ward-13 of the Gazipur City Corporation, and Masum Ahmed Dipu, president of the Sheikh Russel Shishu Kishore Parishad under Kashimpur Police Station.
