A Dhaka court has granted a three-day remand for Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho, the chairman of Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) and a former member of parliament, in connection with an arson attack on the Setu Bhaban during the quota reform protests.

Partho was produced before the court on Tuesday after his previous five-day remand ended. The investigating officer, DB Inspector Abu Sayeed Miah, pleaded for a 10-day remand to ensure a fair investigation. The defence counsel, on the other hand, opposed the remand and sought bail for the BJP leader.

After hearing both sides, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifur Rahman granted a 3-day remand.

Earlier on last Thursday (July 25), the court of Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Sultan Sohag Uddin had granted a five-day remand for Partho in the same case.
