The ruling Awami League (AL) will announce its election manifesto on December 27 for the January 7 general elections.
"Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will announce the election manifesto," AL General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said at a press briefing at the party president's Dhanmondi political office on Monday.
He urged the party leaders and activists to abide by the electoral code of conduct and maintain a peaceful environment.
"The first public rally of Awami League to kick off the election campaign will be held in Sylhet on December 20," Quader said.
AL organising secretaries BM Mozammel Haque, Mirza Azam and Sujit Roy Nandi, Office Secretary Biplab Barua, Religious Affairs Secretary Sirajul Mostafa, Education and Human Resources Secretary Shamsunnahar Chapa and Central Working Committee members Shahabuddin Farazi, Shafiqul Islam Shafiq and Merina Jahan were present at the press briefing, among others.
Party sources said the Awami League President will formally launch the election campaign after offering ziarat at the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) and Hazrat Shah Paran (R). Notably, before every parliamentary election, the Awami League starts its election campaign in Sylhet.
