Baldha Garden declared as ‘Kunjaban’

The government has declared Baldha Garden in Dhaka’s Wari area as ‘Kunjaban’ under the Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act, 2012.

According to a gazette published on August 19, following a notification issued by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on August 10, the historic garden will now receive legal protection as a biodiversity-rich zone.

The notification states that the land, managed by the National Botanical Garden in Mirpur, is home to a wide variety of trees, vines, and other plant species. It is also recognised by the local community for its cultural, social, and traditional significance.

This move aims to conserve the garden’s rich biodiversity while preserving its historic and cultural value for future generations.
