Police have arrested the main accused in the child rape case in Dhaka's Banani area.
The arrestee was identified as Al Amin (21). He was arrested in a drive conducted in Mohakhali area at about 07.50 pm on Tuesday, UNB reports.
According to Banani police, a nine-year-old girl was raped in an abandoned room on the south side of Mohakhali Community Centre under Banani police station on Sunday between 07.00 am and 08.00 am. A team of police, led by Banani police station Officer-in-Charge (OC), rushed to the spot and took the victim to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
The victim's mother filed a case with Banani Police Station in connection with the incident. Al Amin was arrested from Mohakhali TV Gate area under Banani police station after analysing CCTV footage.
Initial investigation revealed that the arrested Al Amin was working as a helper of different public transports at Mohakhali Bus Terminal.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to his involvement in the crime. Legal action is being taken against the arrested accused.
