Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s philosophy on education as a pre-condition to liberate the down trodden, the country will be able to develop potent human resource that will enable attainment of macroeconomic objectives, said Dr. Atiur Rahman on Monday.

The Bangabandhu Chair Professor of Dhaka University and former governor of Bangladesh Bank said it while delivering the third Bangabandhu Public Lecture titled “Bangabandhu’s Thoughts on Education.

“Bangabandhu identified education as a pre-condition for emancipating the down-trodden. Hence, he worked to ensure pro-people education system. With a view to translate his own thoughts on education, Bangabandhu formed the Education Commission and prioritised education in the first Five Year Plan”, said Dr Atiur.

Adhering to his thoughts and philosophy, we will be able to develop potent human resource that will enable attainment of our macroeconomic objectives”, he continued.

Highlighting the similarities between the thoughts of Rabindranath Tagore and Bangabandhu’s education philosophy, Dr. Atiur said that Rabindranath considered the colonial education system to be harmful for national interest.

“Similarly, Bangabandhu strived to prevent creation of clerks and went for full-fledged education reform”’ he said.

Dr. Atiur further added that the Kudrat-E-Khuda education commission formed by Bangbandhu provided clear plans and directives for holistic development of all sub-sectors of education including technical and vocational education.
