“Bangla Sign Language Day-2019” will be observed on Thursday amid festivity across the country aiming to flourish inherent talents and abilities of the physically challenged people and ensure their rights to education, health services and human rights.
The theme of this year is defined as “Sign language is the Right for All”.
On the occasion of the day, various cultural programmes and discussions will be held under the Social Welfare Ministry, said a press release.
Marking the day, a rally will be brought out at 10:00am from Bangladesh Probin Hitoishi Sangha and Jora Bigyan Protishthan which will end at Shomaj Sheba Bhaban in city’s Agargaon area.
With Director General of Department of Social Services Gazi Mohammad Nurul Kabir in the chair, Social Welfare Minister Nuruzzaman Ahmed will attend a discussion as the chief guest at Social Services Department at Agargaon in the city at around 10:30am.
State Minister for Social Welfare Sharif Ahmed and Senior Secretary Jewena Aziz will present at the meeting as special guests, reports BSS.
Social Welfare Additional Secretary (Institutions and Disabilities) Sushanta Kumar Pramanik will give the welcome speech at the meeting.
Instead of verbal communication, deaf people use sign language to express themselves and share their thoughts with others.
The Bangla Sign Language user community is the largest community among the language based minority communities in Bangladesh.
The day has been observed nationally since 2013.
