Bangladesh adds 3,533 virus cases, 33 deaths in daily count

Confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in Bangladesh reached 193,590 on Wednesday, a rise of 3,533 from the previous day, while related deaths increased by 33 to 2,457; according to data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Additional Director General (Admin) of DGHS Dr Nasima Sultana presented the latest figures while briefing the media live on the daily Covid-19 bulletin at 2:30pm today.

The fresh coronavirus infections were found after testing 14,002 samples across the country, she said.

Among the new deaths, 27 are male and the rest are female.

Also, 1,796 more patients have recovered from the disease during the 24-hour period, bringing the total number of recoveries to 105,023.

Bangladesh reported its first cases of coronavirus on March 08 and the first death 10 days later on March 18.

In an effort to contain the virus, the whole country was put on lockdown for more than two months, but the pandemic is showing no sign of slowing down.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has reached 581,583 as of Wednesday noon.

It has so far infected 13,473,111 people around the world, according to Worldometer - a website that provides real-time updates.

Of them, 5,023,682 are currently being treated with 59,545 remain in serious or critical condition.

So far, 7,867,846 people have recovered. 

The novel coronavirus disease was first reported in China in December last year.

As the Covid-19 began sweeping across the world, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared it a pandemic on March 11 this year.
