The government has announced a seven-day break for Eid-ul-Azha, from May 25 to May 31.

The decision came at a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday evening, according to a media statement.

Government offices will remain open on May 23 and 24 before the holiday.

Eid-ul-Azha is observed on the 10th day of the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah.

Subject to moon sighting, Eid may be celebrated in Bangladesh on May 28.

Earlier, the government declared Mar 18 a holiday ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr to ease travel congestion, giving people a consecutive seven-day break.
