Bangladesh has begun celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr, one of the greatest religious festivals of the Muslims, with fervour and devotion.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Chief Adviser to the interim government Prof Muhammad Yunus have greeted the countrymen on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The main congregation in Dhaka took place at the Jatiya Eidgah ground adjacent to the High Court.

The attendees included Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, Religious Affairs Advisor AFM Khalid Hossain, Energy Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan, Supreme Court justices, diplomats from different countries, the administrator of the Dhaka South City Corporation, politicians, intellectuals, government secretaries, and people of all classes and professions.

Mufti Mohammad Abdul Malek, khatib of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, led the main congregation. The mosque’s Muezzin Muhammad Habibur Rahman was the reciter.

As the morning sun rose, people of all ages rushed to the Eidgah grounds from far and wide.

Everyone wore fresh Punjabi kurtas and had skullcaps on their heads. Many carried prayer mats and water bottles.

Children and teenagers accompanied their guardians. They entered the grounds holding hands, shoulder to shoulder.

Additionally, five Eid congregations are being held at the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

The first jamaat began at 7:00 am, followed by subsequent sessions at 8:00 am, 9:00 am, 10:00 am, and 10:45 am.

Mosque's pesh Imam Hafez Mufti Maulana Muhibbullahil Baki led the prayer.

Later, a special munajat was offered seeking divine blessings for peace and progress of Bangladesh and welfare of the people as well as the Muslim Ummah.

Law enforcement agencies have implemented extensive security measures across the country, including in Dhaka, to ensure the safety and order of Eid celebrations.

State-run Bangladesh Television and Bangladesh Betar, along with other TV channels and radio stations, are airing special programmes to mark Eid-ul-Fitr.

Improved meals are being provided at government hospitals, prisons, orphanages, and shelters.
