Bangladesh has strongly condemned Israel’s latest airstrikes on Iran and called on the international community to take coordinated steps to preserve stability in the Middle East.
In a statement issued on Friday, the foreign ministry said it was “deeply concerned” over the attack and described it as a “blatant act of hostility” that clearly violates the UN Charter, international law, and Iran’s sovereignty.
“It poses a serious threat to regional and global peace and security with far reaching consequences,” it added.
The strike, carried out early Friday local time, shook Tehran and several other cities across Iran, reports bdnews24.com.
Footage circulating on social media showed smoke rising from what appeared to be nuclear and military installations.
Several senior Iranian military officials and nuclear scientists were reportedly killed.
Images of damaged buildings and destroyed vehicles have since been published by international media outlets.
Analysts say the scale and intensity of the attack mark a shift from earlier Israeli operations.
While past actions were seen as ‘warnings’, Friday’s attack is being interpreted as an “invitation to war”.
Iran has already begun to retaliate. The Israeli Defence Forces reported that roughly 100 Iranian drones were launched towards Israel, many of which have been intercepted.
Videos of the drone interceptions have surfaced on Telegram.
But observers believe Iran’s response is unlikely to stop there.
Experts cited by CNN warn that Tehran may strike back on a larger scale, a move that could pull the region into war and possibly draw in the United States.
Amid rising tensions, Bangladesh called for de-escalation.
“Bangladesh calls upon all parties to exercise the utmost restraint and refrain from any actions that may further escalate tensions in an already volatile region,” the statement read.
It also called on the United Nations and the wider international community to “act collectively in support of a stable Middle East”.
Reaffirming its stance, the statement added: “Bangladesh considers diplomacy and mutual respect as the only viable path to lasting peace.”
