Speakers at a virtual dialogue on Thursday urged the government to formulate policies on AI and IT-enabled services in line with the fourth industrial revolution (4IR).
Bangladesh can step into a trillion-dollar business in next few years if necessary policy supports can be provided to data processing, cloud services, AI manufacturing etc., they said.
The Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) organised the virtual expert-group meeting for a study on AI and its impact on the IT services sector in Bangladesh.
CPD Executive Director Fahmida Khatun moderated the discussion.
Dispelling fears about AI's taking human's place, the speakers said artificial intelligence (AI) will not take the jobs of human away, but will instead create a lot more new kind of jobs.
They said the fear was not based on facts as the creatures will never be able to outdo the creator.
The objective of the study is to understand how 4IR technologies are entering the IT services sector in
Bangladesh and analyse the implications of 4IR on the employment, particularly in the IT services sector in the country.
The study will also review the existing policies and initiatives taken by the government to address the needs of the IT services sector.
It will suggest measures to prepare the workforce for employment in the IT services sector.
