Bangladesh launches e-passport service at its mission in Stockholm

Bangladesh has inaugurated an e-passport service at Bangladesh mission in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.
A BSS report said through the launching of the e-passport programme in Sweden, the Bangladesh government has so far introduced the programme in 32 foreign missions.
The service was inaugurated during a programme at the Bangladesh embassy in Stockholm on Thursday. Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal joined the event as chief guest.
In his speech, the minister expressed his hope to start the e-visa programme soon.
“The e-passport service is a success of Digital Bangladesh announced by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said.
“According to the promise of the Prime Minister in 2020, Bangladesh became the first country in South Asia to introduce an e-passport,” he added.
On January 22, 2020, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina announced the auspicious opening of the world's most modern e-passport at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre, the minister mentioned, adding, "E-passport is the gift of Mujib Barsha for the people of Bangladesh."
Chaired by Ambassador of Bangladesh in Sweden Mehdy Hasan, the programme was also addressed, among others, by Additional Secretary of Security Services Division Shahanara Khatun, Deputy Director of the e-passport project and members of the Bangladesh community living in Stockholm spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, the home minister reached Belgium on August 17 and participated in a view exchange meeting with Shenzhen state Awami League leaders and workers.
