Updated :

The government has scaled back visa issuance for Indian nationals at its Deputy High Commission in Kolkata.

The mission began implementing the directive on Friday, a day after the government issued the order through a confidential letter, according to Bangla daily Samakal

No similar measures have been imposed at Bangladesh’s missions in Delhi or Assam.

However, foreign ministry officials said the restrictions could be expanded depending on the situation there.

Earlier this week, the government recalled the heads of the Agartala and Kolkata missions indefinitely, leaving both short-staffed.

Shabab Bin Ahmed, currently stationed at Bangladesh’s embassy in The Hague, has been reassigned to the Kolkata mission.

However, officials noted that his arrival may take time.
