Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has said that peace is extremely important in the country so that people can live and move without fear.

"Peace in Bangladesh is extremely important. We need to keep it in mind always. We want peace in the country, we want peace for the nation, and we want peace for the whole world," he said.

The Chief Adviser made the remarks at a function held at the Chief Adviser’s Office (CAO) in Tejgaon on Monday, where he exchanged Eid greetings with dignitaries, UNB reports.

Advisers, the chiefs of the three services, political leaders, diplomats, members of the National Consensus Commission, civil society members, and journalists were present.

Dr Yunus urged people to bear the message of Eid-ul-Fitr in mind to move the nation forward and establish peace in the country.

“This year’s Eid is very important so that we get closer to each other, minimize our distance, and unite the nation and society. Because getting united this time is crucial, and that should be achieved,” he said.

Dr Yunus emphasised showing tolerance to each other and building friendly relations.

Later, addressing the diplomats briefly in English, the Chief Adviser said this is a day of unifying the nation and the people so that they can overcome all distances and differences and build unity among all.

He said the nation needs that unity, particularly at this moment, as it is very important.

"I hope you will help us build this unity and move forward. Bangladesh deserves more," Dr Yunus said.

The Chief Adviser said Bangladesh has a bright future that has not yet been explored. "We want to explore that. We want to make that future come true. That is where it begins—unifying and building the nation to move forward. Let's do that."
